CAScade Overview
What is CAS?
CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), is a core component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, designed to develop well-rounded learners who cultivate interests and skills beyond academics. Alongside the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge (TOK), CAS forms one of the three essential pillars of the diploma experience.
CAS encourages students to grow intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially by engaging in meaningful experiences outside the classroom.
The Three CAS Strands
Creativity– Exploring ideas and experiences that involve creative thinking, such as arts, innovation, design, or problem-solving.
Activity– Physical exertion that contributes to a healthy lifestyle and balances academic work, including sports, fitness, and outdoor challenges.
Service– Voluntary, unpaid experiences that benefit others and provide learning value. This may include community projects, environmental initiatives, fundraising, or helping those in
need.
CAS goals and importance
Many people ask why CAS is part of the IB philosophy. The answer lies in its belief that education should nurture the mind, body, and heart equally. CAS provides balance by giving
students opportunities to engage with the world in meaningful, real-life contexts rather than focusing solely on academics.
At Treamis, students are encouraged to select CAS projects aligned with their passions and interests, making learning more personal, purposeful, and impactful.
Importantly, CAS is not about grades — it is about growth.
